Family Eye Care Miraloma Park

With so many different lens choices and coatings available at our Miraloma Park optometry practice, sometimes it can difficult to find what prescription lens will suit you and your eye care needs best. When it’s time to make your lens choice at the optometry practice of Dr. Edward Soss in San Francisco, you can be comforted by the fact that our expert staff will be on hand to guide you in your decision making. There are three main types of lens coatings available at our Miraloma Park optical store, including anti-reflective, scratch-resistant and ultra-violet protection coatings.

Anti-reflective coatings improve visual clarity and reduce reflections in your glasses. The best benefit anti-reflective coatings offer is that they can help immensely with night-time vision. However, lenses with anti-reflective coatings can be prone to smudges and are more difficult to clean, so if you do receive this coating, be sure to ask Miraloma Park eye doctor, Dr. Edward Soss for tips on how to keep your eyewear clean and smudge-free. This type of eyeglass coating may be beneficial to individual who have high-index lenses as well as people who want to make their eyes visible to others around them.

The next type of lens coating available is a scratch-resistant coating which protects the lenses from everyday wear and tear. Whether you find yourself knocking your glasses off your nightstand in the morning or wearing them around your neck or on the top of your head, scratch-resistant coatings can prolong the lifetime of your lenses. However, progressive, polycarbonate, and trivex lenses often have a built-in scratch-resistant coating, so the additional expense won’t be necessary. Lastly, our opticians may recommend ultraviolet protection, which can block harmful UV light. Just like the scratch-resistant coating, many lens types already include this coating.

At the optometry office of Dr. Edward Soss, we examine the eye for routine purposes, diagnose and treat eye diseases, assess health risks based on the appearance of the eyes and advise patients on how health problems can effect the eyes and vision. We take the time to discuss all options with our patients, including the benefits of both eyeglasses and contact lenses with correcting visual impairments, like the common refractive errors of nearsightedness and farsightedness. Our Ingleside optometrist, Dr. Soss is well-known in the San Francisco area for his gentle and caring approach to eye care, as well as his dedication to his patients.

Comprehensive Eye Exams. A comprehensive eye exam will include a thorough vision and health history, testing the visual acuity, eye muscle balance, tracking, focusing ability, a microscopic examination of the structures in the front of the eye, and an examination of the structures in the back of the eye which may require dilation of the pupil, depending on the case.  Also, each patient is evaluated closely to assure that there is no glaucoma, cataracts, or macular degeneration. Additionally, our Sunnyside California eye doctor will make house calls to those patients that are housebound or in convalescent homes/hospitals.

Contact Lenses. We also offer contact lens evaluation and fitting services.  Whether you require special fitting due to eye disease or trauma, or like most patients, you want to see clearly without glasses, our doctors will find the right lens for your eye. This occasionally includes measuring the arc of your eye to ensure a comfortable fit. We most frequently prescribe soft contact lenses to our patients because of their tremendous comfort. With all the advances in optical goods, contact lenses are now available for patients with astigmatism and dry eyes. We also offer colored contact lenses for those looking to change their eye color.

Glaucoma Diagnosis and Testing. As the second leading cause of blindness, glaucoma is a very serious eye condition. At our Westwood Park optometry office, we have state of the art technology for diagnosing, treating and managing glaucoma.  This includes scanning laser polarimetry which assesses the nerve fiber layer of the retina.  Humphrey perimetry which is the gold standard for peripheral vision testing.  Additionally, we utilize canon digital image photography to document any changes that may occur due to glaucoma.
