It is extremely important that patients have yearly eye exams in order to make sure that their eyes are staying healthy and disease-free. At our vision practice, Edward Soss, OD, our expert optometrist, Dr. Edward Soss, can provide you with a comprehensive eye exam or contact lens exam and fitting. Whichever type of useful reference you are having, you will receive a thorough screening to make sure that your eyes are healthy.
During the first part of our Outer Mission eye exam, your eyes will be screened for any type of refractive error. If it is determined that you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism, our optometrist will provide you with a new contact lens or eyeglass lens prescription, so that you will be able to see clearly once again. Today just about all patients are able to wear contact lenses – even patients who suffer with astigmatism or dry eye. This is due to the great advancements that have been made in contact lenses over recent years. During our eye exams, your eyes will also be screened for many different types of eye problems including: glaucoma; macular degeneration; cataracts; diabetic retinopathy; dry eye; retinal tears; and other problems of the cornea, macula, and retina. Many eye diseases do not show any symptoms in the early stages. However, if these diseases are caught early, the patient will not need to suffer any vision loss. This is why it is so important that patients come to see us for annual eye exams. Glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy are all serious eye problems which can be better controlled with early detection. If you are having a contact lens exam, our optometrist will also take measurements of the curvature of your cornea and the size of your iris to help ensure that your new contact lenses will fit your precisely right. It is very important that contact lenses fit just right or damage can occur to the cornea of the eye.
